Your business is eligible if you have: PAYE and Employers Liability Insurance. You will also need to pay the apprentice, at a minimum, the Apprentice Minimum Wage.

You will have to pay the apprentice a wage of at least the Minimum National Wage and 5% of the cost of the apprenticeship course.

Each apprenticeship course has a maximum funding amount that is set by the government. This amount can range from £3000 to £25,000 depending on the course. The government will cover 95% of this cost and your business has to cover 5%.

If you meet the criteria for a grant, you will usually receive it in installments with the first being 90 days after the apprentice starts with your company. With the rest being paid after the apprentice has been with the company for 1 year.

The minimum age is 16. There is no maximum age for the apprenticeship scheme.

You can have an existing employee put through the apprenticeship scheme as long as they meet these criteria: Have lived in England for the past 3 years and spends 50% of their working time in England.

If the apprentice leaves the company, then the course will also be terminated. You will not be liable to pay for the remainder of the course.
